Last week I spent in Poland where I had the great pleasure to be on the media jury during the 14th addition of Cracow Fashion Week – one of the most important Polish fashion events.
Cracow Fashion Week has been initiated by the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design, where each year graduates from the school have a chance to present their diploma collections during the CFW gala. The best collection is awarded by an international jury of renowned fashion and media personalities which provides SAPU statuette.
The main idea of Cracow Fashion Week apart from presenting the diploma collections is promoting innovation in design. Each year artists, fashion designers, and photographers from various countries have the priceless opportunity to show their work. CFW supports new technologies in fashion such as 3Dfashion, NFT, or Metaverse, and promotes responsible fashion and sustainability which is visible in each collection.
This year’s show took place in a new and very vibrant venue on the cultural map of Cracow – CKF13. This spacious location with great interiors hosted around 1000 people!
As a media jury member, I had the pleasure to sneak backstage and see each collection up close, and we all know that the best time is the backstage time with all the creative madness going on there. During the fashion gala, we could see the 18 best collections that were dominated by all the colors of the rainbow, handmade embroidery, crochet knitting, and quite complicated constructions. Personally, I found very interesting the 3D printing projects and innovative prints.
The winner of the 14th edition of CFW was Gabriela Nowak, who received the highest notes from both fashion and media councils, and personally, it was also my favorite collection. Her collection “F.W.T. Future Work Today” has been inspired by workwear and futuristic architecture. As accessories, she used handmade sunglasses made of recycled materials.

Cracow Fashion Week partnered with Polish and other European Fashion Weeks, including Budapest Central European Fashion Week, Feeric Fashion Week, Wroclaw Fashion Week, Contemporary Art and Fashion Festival Virus, and Montenegro Fashion Week. This great partnership will give another opportunity to young and emerging designers, who graduated from SAPU, to show their collections outside of Poland.
A great example is Ania Szyczygiel, one of the SAPU graduates whose collections have been already shown during BCEFW, or Riga Fashion Week. She is also one of my favorite Polish designers and I strongly encourage you to check out her webshop!

I truly hope that the Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design will continue doing a great job and promote great Polish designers in Poland and abroad, at the same time inviting talented designers from all around the world to Cracow!
